Fluvoxamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Shiitake Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for fluvoxamine. Your body partly clears this medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies hint that a concentrated shiitake extract (AHCC) might speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, your body could clear fluvoxamine a little faster, which in theory might make it work less well. For a medicine treating OCD or social anxiety, that could look like your symptoms creeping back.

I want to be honest, though: this is only seen in test-tube studies, never confirmed in humans, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Eating shiitake as food is very unlikely to matter. If you're considering a concentrated shiitake or AHCC supplement, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.

What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?

Brand name: Luvox

Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.
