I want to be upfront with you here: the interaction on file is really about shiitake possibly stimulating the immune system, which could work against true immunosuppressant medications (like those used after transplants). Lumateperone (Caplyta) is not an immunosuppressant. It is an atypical antipsychotic that works on brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, so this immune-related concern does not really apply to it.

On top of that, the evidence here is only theoretical, based on lab (in vitro) studies, not real-world cases. Eating shiitake as food is generally fine. If you are considering concentrated shiitake supplements alongside your Caplyta, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can review your full list.

What Is Lumateperone Used For?

Brand name: Caplyta

Caplyta (lumateperone) is approved for adults with schizophrenia, depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder (bipolar depression), and as an add-on treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).

For bipolar depression, Caplyta can be used on its own or alongside lithium or valproate. For MDD, Caplyta is used together with an antidepressant — not on its own as a standalone antidepressant.
