Here's the thing to keep in mind: Siponimod (Mayzent) works by quieting down certain immune cells so they cause less nerve damage in MS. Shiitake, especially in concentrated extracts like lentinan or AHCC, is thought to do the opposite and nudge the immune system to be more active. So on paper these two pull in opposite directions, and a revved-up immune response could in theory chip away at how well Siponimod controls your MS.

I want to be honest that this concern comes from lab (test tube) findings, not real patient cases, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Eating shiitake as a normal food is very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about a concentrated shiitake supplement, just run it by your neurologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Siponimod Used For?

Brand name: Mayzent

Mayzent (siponimod) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). This includes three specific types: clinically isolated syndrome (a first episode of MS-like symptoms), relapsing-remitting MS (periods of attacks followed by recovery), and active secondary progressive MS (a phase where the disease gradually worsens but still has active relapses).

It is taken by mouth once daily and is intended as a long-term treatment to reduce relapses and slow disease progression.
