Sildenafil Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Soy interacts with.

Soy might modestly induce CYP2C9 enzymes. However, this effect does not seem to be clinically significant.
In vitro research suggests that an unhydrolyzed soy extract might induce CYP2C9. However, the significance of this interaction is likely minimal. In healthy females taking a specific extract of soy (Genistein Soy Complex, Source Naturals), blood levels of losartan, a CYP2C9 substrate, were not significantly affected.

Here's the short version: this is a very mild, mostly theoretical concern. Soy contains plant compounds that, in lab studies, may slightly speed up an enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways that helps clear sildenafil (Viagra) from your body. In theory, a faster cleanup could mean a little less drug around, which might make it work slightly less well.

In real life, though, this hasn't panned out. A human study using a soy isoflavone supplement showed no meaningful change in a similar medication. So eating tofu, edamame, or soy milk is very unlikely to affect your dose. If you take concentrated soy isoflavone capsules and notice Viagra seems less effective, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Viagra

Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.

Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
