Why this applies to Brigatinib

Brigatinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sweet Annie interacts with.

Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the situation with Sweet Annie and your Brigatinib (Alunbrig). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear brigatinib. Sweet Annie seems to tug on that enzyme in two opposite directions in lab studies: one of its compounds (artemisinin) may speed CYP3A4 up, while the whole-plant extract appears to slow it down. So we honestly can't say which way it would push your brigatinib levels in real life.

If brigatinib clears faster, it may work less well against your cancer. If it builds up, you could see more side effects like high blood pressure, cough, shortness of breath, or stomach upset. Brigatinib is active on its own (not a prodrug), so it's not flipped. This is based only on test-tube data, so please don't start Sweet Annie without checking with your oncologist or pharmacist first.
