Here's the concern in plain terms. Vadadustat (Vafseo) is used to treat anemia in people with chronic kidney disease, and one of its known risks is stress on the liver. Sweet Annie, the herb behind artemisinin, has also been linked to possible liver irritation in some reports. So the worry is simple: two things that can each bother the liver, used together, might add up.

To be honest, this is a theoretical, mostly anecdotal concern, not something backed by strong studies. Still, since Vadadustat already comes with liver monitoring, I'd rather you not stack an unproven herb on top of it. Watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
