Lenalidomide falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern actually runs the other way around. It's not that lenalidomide (Revlimid) changes your thyroid extract. Rather, taking other oral pills and supplements alongside thyroid hormone can block how well that hormone gets absorbed in your gut. So if you swallow your thyroid extract and your lenalidomide at the same moment, you may get less benefit from the thyroid product, and your thyroid symptoms (tiredness, feeling cold, weight changes) could creep back.

The fix is usually simple: spacing. Thyroid hormone works best on an empty stomach, taken alone, with other medicines given a bit later. This is a minor, well-recognized timing issue, not a dangerous reaction. Still, please let your pharmacist or oncologist set the schedule, since cancer treatment with lenalidomide needs careful coordination.

About Lenalidomide

What Is Lenalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Revlimid

Lenalidomide capsules (brand names Revlimid and Lenalidomide) are used to treat several blood cancers and related conditions in adults. These include multiple myeloma (MM) — both in combination with dexamethasone and as maintenance therapy after a stem cell transplant — and transfusion-dependent anemia caused by low- or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) linked to a specific chromosome change called deletion 5q.

Lenalidomide capsules are also used for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) that has come back or stopped responding after at least two prior treatments (one of which included bortezomib). In combination with a rituximab product, they treat previously treated follicular lymphoma (FL) and previously treated marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Lenalidomide is not approved for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) outside of clinical trials.
