Tinospora Cordifolia and Oestrogen

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Oestrogen

Oestrogen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Tinospora cordifolia might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP1A2 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist for estrogen: part of how your body clears it runs through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) blocked that enzyme when used in high concentrations. If that same blocking happened in people, your body might break estrogen down a little slower, letting levels creep up. That could mean more of the usual estrogen side effects, like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, headaches, or spotting.

I want to be straight with you, though. This is only a theoretical concern based on lab data, and it has never actually been reported in humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since the supplement itself has been linked to liver issues, do run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oestrogen page

“Anyone taking oestrogen should read this page with real care, because the most serious entries can quietly push hormone levels up or wipe them out. Grapefruit blocks the liver enzyme that clears estrogen, raising levels and the risk of side effects, while St.”

Tinospora cordifolia, known as Guduchi or Giloy in Ayurvedic medicine, is a climbing plant traditionally used to support immunity and treat fevers.
