Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Tasimelteon
Tasimelteon falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP1A2 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down and clear tasimelteon (Hetlioz). Lab studies hint that Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) may slow that same enzyme down, at least at high concentrations in a test tube. If that happened in a real person, tasimelteon could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger or longer-lasting effects like next-morning drowsiness, grogginess, or odd dreams.
I'll be honest, though: this is purely theoretical right now and has never actually been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Tasimelteon already nudges your sleep timing, so any added drowsiness is what you'd watch for. Before adding Giloy, check in with your pharmacist or doctor, especially since this herb has been linked to liver concerns.
