Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. That gel can grab onto pills sitting in your gut and change how much medicine actually gets absorbed. With your combo pill, that means the dicyclomine (which calms stomach cramps) and the phenobarbital (a sedative that also settles the gut) could be absorbed a little less, a little more, or not differently at all. Honestly, no one can predict the exact direction.

This is only a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not proven harm. Phenobarbital is the one I'd watch most, since shifts in its level can mean more drowsiness or, the other way, less control. An easy fix: take your medicine first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. Run it by your pharmacist to be safe.
