Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing with Latuda (lurasidone): it's swallowed as a pill and absorbed from your gut, so anything that physically coats or thickens your stomach contents can theoretically get in the way. Tragacanth swells into a slippery gel when it meets fluid, and that gel could trap part of the dose and change how much lurasidone actually makes it into your bloodstream.

This is only a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not from real-world reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you take a tragacanth supplement, a simple fix is to space them out: take your lurasidone first (with food, as directed), then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the supplement. If you notice your symptoms feeling less controlled, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. What Is Lurasidone Used For?

Brand name: Latuda

Lurasidone hydrochloride tablets are approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13 to 17, and to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children aged 10 to 17. Latuda is one of the brand names under which lurasidone is available as a tablet.

For bipolar depression, lurasidone can be used on its own (monotherapy) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 to 17, or used alongside lithium or valproate (adjunctive therapy) in adults.
