Lurasidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the short version: your body relies heavily on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down lurasidone (Latuda). Lab-dish research suggests that concentrated Padang cassia may slow that enzyme down. If it did the same thing in people, lurasidone could clear more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, or unsteadiness when you stand up.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is only test-tube data, not real patient studies, so it's theoretical. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal is very unlikely to matter. The bigger question is concentrated cinnamon capsules. Before adding those, please check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. What Is Lurasidone Used For?

Brand name: Latuda

Lurasidone hydrochloride tablets are approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13 to 17, and to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children aged 10 to 17. Latuda is one of the brand names under which lurasidone is available as a tablet.

For bipolar depression, lurasidone can be used on its own (monotherapy) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 to 17, or used alongside lithium or valproate (adjunctive therapy) in adults.
