Doxycycline falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of Padang cassia might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Padang cassia contains coumarin. Coumarin has caused hepatotoxicity in animal models. In otherwise healthy humans, very high doses of coumarin, from 50-7000 mg daily, can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.

Here's the gist with doxycycline and concentrated Padang cassia (Indonesian cinnamon): both can be tough on your liver. Cassia cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, which in large supplement amounts has been linked to liver irritation in some people. Doxycycline, while usually well tolerated, can occasionally raise liver enzymes too. Stacking two things that lean on the liver may add up, especially if you already have liver issues.

To be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how these compounds behave, not strong human studies with this exact combo. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal is no problem. The caution is really about high-dose cinnamon capsules. If you take those, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Doxycycline belongs to the tetracycline family of antibiotics. It's prescribed for many types of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tick-borne illnesses like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and eye infections. It's also used to help prevent malaria and, in some cases, as a helper treatment for severe acne.

In situations where penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used — due to allergy, for example — doxycycline can step in as an alternative. It should only be used for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
