Here's the simple version. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick, slippery gel when it meets liquid in your stomach. That gel can grab onto pills sitting nearby and slow or block how much medicine actually gets absorbed. For your Uro-Phosphate (methenamine with sodium biphosphate), the worry is that less of the drug gets into you, which could mean it does a weaker job keeping your urinary tract clear of bacteria.

To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies, so don't panic. A practical fix is easy: take your medication first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before having tragacanth. If you're unsure how to space things out, your pharmacist can help you sort it.
