Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with Brukinsa (zanubrutinib) and tragacanth. This plant gum swells into a thick, slippery gel when it meets fluid, and in theory that gel could trap a swallowed pill and change how much of the medicine your gut actually absorbs. It might lower it, raise it, or do nothing at all. This is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, zanubrutinib is a serious cancer drug where steady levels matter, so it's worth keeping them apart. A simple fix is to take your zanubrutinib first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. Loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before adding any supplement here.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Zanubrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Brukinsa

Brukinsa (zanubrutinib) is used to treat adult patients with several blood cancers. These include chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) after at least one prior treatment, relapsed or refractory marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) after at least one prior anti-CD20 regimen, and relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) in combination with obinutuzumab after two or more prior lines of treatment.

Some of these uses — MCL, MZL, and FL — are approved under accelerated approval, meaning they are based on tumor response rates rather than confirmed long-term survival benefit. Continued approval for those uses may depend on results from confirmatory trials.
