Whey Protein + Ibandronate

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
BISPHOSPHONATES
Why this applies to Ibandronate
Ibandronate falls under BISPHOSPHONATES — the group Whey Protein interacts with.
Whey protein contains minerals such as calcium that bind bisphosphonates in the gut. Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before whey protein, but preferably at a different time of day.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the practical concern with Boniva (ibandronate) and whey protein. Oral bisphosphonates are already tricky to absorb, and your body only takes in a tiny fraction of each dose to begin with. Whey protein contains calcium and other minerals that can grab onto ibandronate in your gut and keep it from being absorbed. If that happens, you may end up getting less of the medicine than you need to protect your bones, which could quietly weaken how well it works over time.
The good news is this is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave, not strong clinical proof. The simple fix matches what you already do for ibandronate: take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning with plain water, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before any food or supplements, including your whey shake. Ideally, space the whey to later in the day. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure about timing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibandronate page
“Ibandronate (Boniva) treats osteoporosis, and it is famously hard to absorb, which is why you take it fasting with plain water. Nearly all 23 supplements on this list attack that same weak point, so treat them with real care, because the danger is not a new side effect but a dose that quietly never reaches your bones.”
