Dextroamphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group White Pepper interacts with.

In vitro evidence suggests that some constituents of white pepper inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). Theoretically, concomitant use may affect drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's the gist for dextroamphetamine: your liver partly uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down. Lab studies hint that piperine, the spicy compound in white pepper, can slow that enzyme a bit. If that happened in your body, dextroamphetamine might hang around longer and feel stronger, which could mean a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a higher blood pressure than usual.

That said, this is theoretical, based mostly on test-tube work rather than real people. The sprinkle of white pepper you use while cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated piperine supplements are the bigger question mark. If you take or are considering one, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
