Zinc + Ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin brand names: Cipro, Ciprobay, Cipro XR, Ciloxan, Cipro IV, and others.
Zinc has a moderate interaction with Ciprofloxacin. Zinc can decrease the levels and clinical effects of quinolones antibiotics.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Zinc interacts with.
Quinolones form complexes with zinc in the gastrointestinal tract, reducing absorption of both the quinolone and zinc if taken at the same time. Advise patients to take these drugs at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after, zinc supplements.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the practical issue with zinc and Cipro. When the two meet in your stomach, the zinc grabs onto the ciprofloxacin and forms a clump that your gut can't absorb well. The result is that less of the antibiotic actually gets into your bloodstream, so it may not fight your infection as effectively.
The fix is simple: separate them. Take your ciprofloxacin at least 2 hours before, or 4 to 6 hours after, any zinc supplement (this also includes many multivitamins and some antacids that contain zinc, calcium, magnesium, or iron). This is a well-recognized interaction, so spacing the doses matters. If you're unsure how to time things, your pharmacist can map out a quick schedule for you.

By severity: 8 major · 133 moderate · 22 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ciprofloxacin page
“A glass of apple or grapefruit juice can sharply cut how much ciprofloxacin (Cipro) your body absorbs, because these juices block a transporter the antibiotic needs to reach the bloodstream. That is one of eight major-rated risks among the 163 supplement and herbal ingredients on file, and I treat this list as a genuine warning rather…”

About Zinc
What is Zinc?
- Zinc deficiency
- Immune support
- Cold symptoms
- Acne
- Wound healing
Zinc is an essential mineral that your body needs for immune function, wound healing, taste, and smell. Most people get enough from food, but supplements can help correct or prevent a deficiency. Taking too much zinc for too long can cause harm, so check with a pharmacist or doctor before using high-dose supplements.
About Ciprofloxacin
What Is Ciprofloxacin Used For?
Brand names: Cipro, Ciprobay, Cipro XR, Ciloxan, Cipro IV, Otiprio
Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It's prescribed to treat bacterial infections in many parts of the body — including the urinary tract, skin, lungs, bones, joints, and digestive system. It's also used to protect against or treat anthrax and plague after exposure.
Because ciprofloxacin carries real risks, it's reserved for milder conditions like sinus infections, simple bladder infections, and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis only when there are no safer alternatives available.
