Carbohydrate Inhibitor Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Carbohydrate Inhibitor against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Wonder Laboratories' Carbohydrate Inhibitor has 3 active ingredients: vanadium, chromium, and white kidney bean extract. Vanadium is a mineral that may play a role in insulin function and blood sugar regulation.
Chromium is another mineral involved in glucose metabolism and insulin action. White kidney bean extract is included for potential carbohydrate-blocking effects, though we hold no interaction data on it.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — calcium carbonate, stearic acid, cellulose, and silica — that serve as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Vanadium is likely effective for vanadium deficiency, but we don't have established evidence that it works for diabetes, athletic performance, cancer, or high cholesterol — the data we hold rates those uses as insufficient to judge.
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes, but it's rated possibly ineffective for prediabetes, schizophrenia, and high blood pressure. We hold no effectiveness data for white kidney bean extract.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vanadium is generally well tolerated at small dietary amounts, but supplement doses can cause side effects and may be toxic at high levels. The tolerable upper intake level is 1.8 mg daily; above that, you may experience stomach discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea.
Rare cases of kidney damage have been reported with long-term high-dose use. Allergic reactions, including rash and itching, have occurred in some people.
Vanadium should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough safety information. Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though high or long-term doses may pose risks.
Common side effects include stomach irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes. Rare serious effects include kidney and liver damage.
Skin reactions, including rashes and hives, can occur. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, small amounts from food or prenatal vitamins are considered acceptable, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends them.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check these medication types with your pharmacist: antidiabetes drugs and insulin (moderate risk of low blood sugar), blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (moderate risk of bleeding from vanadium), levothyroxine or other thyroid hormones (moderate risk that chromium reduces absorption), and NSAIDs or aspirin (minor risk that they increase chromium levels). Altogether, these interactions span 240 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with carbohydrate blocking, but both active ingredients you can check carry moderate risks with common medications — especially diabetes drugs, insulin, blood thinners, and thyroid medication. If you're on any of those, or take NSAIDs or aspirin regularly, talk to your pharmacist before starting.
Vanadium and chromium aren't right for pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Carbohydrate Inhibitor by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wonder Laboratories' Carbohydrate Inhibitor contains vanadium and chromium, both of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is a moderate risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when you combine either ingredient with diabetes medications or insulin. Vanadium and chromium can both increase insulin sensitivity and lower blood glucose on their own, so adding them to drugs that already do this could push your sugar too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vanadium also carries a moderate risk of increased bleeding if you're taking blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel. In lab studies, vanadium appears to slow clotting time, which compounds the blood-thinning effect of these medications.
Chromium has an additional moderate interaction with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid hormone replacement — chromium can bind to it in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs, making your thyroid medication less effective. It also theoretically increases the risk of low blood sugar when combined with insulin specifically.
NSAIDs and aspirin may increase how much chromium your body absorbs, though this is rated a minor concern.
We could not check white kidney bean extract for interactions — we hold no data for it. Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the checker below, especially if you take diabetes drugs, insulin, blood thinners, or thyroid medication.

For each ingredient in Carbohydrate Inhibitor with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vanadium
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
A few very small clinical studies in patients with type 2 diabetes show that the vanadyl sulfate form of vanadium increases insulin sensitivity and might lower blood glucose levels.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
