Does it work?
Strong evidence
For L. acidophilus, the evidence shows it's possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bacillus subtilis DE-111 is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance. For L. bulgaricus and the enzyme Lipase, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate their effectiveness.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though the facts advise checking with your doctor before use. Rare gastrointestinal side effects like mild discomfort, bloating, or diarrhea have been reported when probiotics are combined, and very rarely, rash or itching.
There is a theoretical concern that live probiotics could cause serious infection in people who are very ill or severely immunocompromised, though this is uncommon. L. bulgaricus and Bacillus subtilis are generally well tolerated in healthy people; however, those who are very ill or immunocompromised should be cautious.
Lactase is generally well tolerated; rare allergy has been reported in people exposed to powdered lactase. Lipase has no reported adverse effects in adults, though safety data is limited.

Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Protease Thera-Blend
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
