by Enzymedica
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Digest +Probiotics against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Digest +Probiotics by Enzymedica
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Digest+Probiotics contains 21 ingredients: live probiotic bacteria (including Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. paracasei, L. casei, L. salivarius, L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, L. acidophilus DDS-1, and Bacillus subtilis DE-111) and digestive enzymes (Lipase, Amylase, Protease, Glucoamylase, Cellulase, Alpha Galactosidase, Lactase, Maltase, Xylanase, Invertase, Pectinase, and Hemicellulase). The probiotics are meant to support gut bacteria balance, while the enzymes help break down food.
The capsule itself is made from 100% vegetarian material.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
For L. acidophilus, the evidence shows it's possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bacillus subtilis DE-111 is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance. For L. bulgaricus and the enzyme Lipase, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate their effectiveness.
The data on the other ingredients in this product is not established in the facts we have available.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though the facts advise checking with your doctor before use. Rare gastrointestinal side effects like mild discomfort, bloating, or diarrhea have been reported when probiotics are combined, and very rarely, rash or itching.
There is a theoretical concern that live probiotics could cause serious infection in people who are very ill or severely immunocompromised, though this is uncommon. L. bulgaricus and Bacillus subtilis are generally well tolerated in healthy people; however, those who are very ill or immunocompromised should be cautious.
Lactase is generally well tolerated; rare allergy has been reported in people exposed to powdered lactase. Lipase has no reported adverse effects in adults, though safety data is limited.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, double-check any antibiotic drugs you take. Antibiotics can kill the live probiotics in this supplement and make it less effective.
Your pharmacist can help you time the doses right. No interactions are documented for the other ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a probiotic and enzyme blend aimed at digestive support. It's generally well tolerated in healthy adults.
If you take antibiotics, talk to your pharmacist about timing—you'll want to separate the doses. Anyone who is very ill or has a weakened immune system should check with their doctor first.

Formulation
Enzyme deficiencies may result from a combination of age, diet and lifestyle. These deficiencies can lead to a variety of digestive discomforts, including occasional gas, bloating, irregularity and indigestion. Fortifying the digestive system with enzymes and probiotics may promote optimal digestion while maintaining the digestive system's natural balance to support overall digestive health. Digest +Probiotics contains an advanced formula that breaks down carbohydrates, fats, fiber and protein. Probiotics provide additional digestive support by boosting enzyme production and promoting regularity.
Thera-blend is an exclusive process that combines multiple strains of enzymes that work in various pH levels. Thera-blend enzymes have been shown to be three times stronger and work more than six times faster than leading digestive supplements.

Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Protease Thera-Blend
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
