Elecampane Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Elecampane against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Elecampane by Herbalist & Alchemist
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: fresh elecampane root extract. Elecampane is a plant whose root has been used traditionally in herbal medicine.
The liquid also contains ethyl alcohol and distilled water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we have doesn't establish that elecampane works reliably for acne or cough — both have insufficient reliable evidence to rate. If you're considering this product for another use, the data we hold doesn't cover it, so a conversation with your pharmacist about what you're hoping it will do is a good idea.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Elecampane is generally well tolerated when used in small amounts in tea or tinctures, but it can cause allergic reactions and stomach upset. Topically, it may trigger allergic contact dermatitis, especially in people sensitive to plants in the daisy family (ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and related herbs).
At high oral doses, it can cause diarrhea, vomiting, muscle spasms, and in rare cases, symptoms resembling paralysis. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe in either situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining this product with CNS depressants — sedatives, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications, opioids, and other drugs that slow your central nervous system. Elecampane may add to their drowsy effects and impair your alertness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Elecampane may be worth trying if you're interested in traditional herbal use and don't take sedating medications. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on any CNS depressants (sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, pain medications), talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Stop and reach out to your healthcare provider if you notice allergic reactions, stomach upset, or unusual symptoms.
