Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

IndoleMax contains one active ingredient: indole-3-carbinol, a compound found naturally in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. The product also includes inactive ingredients—vegetable cellulose, white rice flour, and rice extract—which are used as the capsule material and fillers.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Indole-3-carbinol product and its label doesn't state a use — see Indole-3-carbinol's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for indole-3-carbinol is not yet established in the data we hold. We have insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical dysplasia, liver disease, colorectal cancer, or fibromyalgia.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the clinical trials to prove it aren't complete or strong enough yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Indole-3-carbinol from food is likely fine, but supplement doses at higher concentrations are less well studied and should be used cautiously. The most common side effects from oral use are diarrhea, nausea, rash, tremor, and unsteadiness.

Higher doses have been linked to imbalance and tremor; one person taking 400 mg twice daily developed these symptoms after 10 days, which improved when the dose was cut in half. Because of possible hormone effects and limited safety data, concentrated supplements should be avoided during pregnancy.

Safety data isn't on file for this ingredient during breastfeeding, so supplement use is not recommended while nursing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your individual situation if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Indole-3-carbinol.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 294 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking IndoleMax, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk)—indole-3-carbinol may increase bleeding. Also check if you're on estrogen therapy (Moderate risk) or any drugs that depend on the CYP1A2 enzyme to be cleared from your body (Moderate risk), as this supplement may reduce how well they work.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

IndoleMax may be worth considering if you're interested in the potential benefits of indole-3-carbinol, but the evidence for its effectiveness is still being researched. However, you should be cautious if you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, estrogen therapy, or medications metabolized by the CYP1A2 pathway.

Before adding it to your routine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it won't interfere with your current medications or health situation.

What is indole-3-carbinol, and where does it come from?

Can I take IndoleMax with my blood thinner?
Not without checking with your doctor first. Indole-3-carbinol may increase your bleeding risk if you're on anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin. Get cleared before combining them.
