This powder contains 2 active ingredients: L-citrulline and DL-malate (malic acid) in a 2:1 ratio. L-citrulline is an amino acid your body converts to another amino acid called L-arginine, which plays a role in blood vessel function and circulation.
Malic acid is an organic acid found naturally in fruits. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-citrulline has possibly effective evidence for athletic performance. For sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for cardiovascular disease, heart failure, Reye syndrome, or diabetes. Malic acid shows possibly effective evidence for dry mouth, but evidence is insufficient for acne, GERD, fatigue, fibromyalgia, and psoriasis.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-citrulline is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal discomfort and heartburn.
There isn't enough safety data to recommend L-citrulline in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Malic acid is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but supplement safety isn't well studied.
There's little safety information for supplement doses, so caution is advised. When taken orally in larger amounts, diarrhea and nausea have been reported, though it's unclear how much of that effect comes from the malic acid itself versus other ingredients in combination products.

L-Citrulline
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-citrulline with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the chance of hypotension.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. However, a meta-analysis of 5 small clinical studies suggests that taking L-citrulline 3-6 grams daily for 1-8 weeks does not lower blood pressure when compared with control.
Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors
Theoretically, concurrent use of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors and L-citrulline might result in additive vasodilation.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. Theoretically, taking L-arginine with PDE-5 inhibitors might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.
DL-Malate
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, malic acid might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that malic acid isolated from tagetes roots can reduce mean arterial blood pressure.
