Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Lactobacillus Reuteri Plus contains 4 active ingredients, all probiotics (beneficial bacteria). Lactobacillus acidophilus is included to support gut health and digestion.
The product also contains Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus reuteri, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus—three other probiotic strains. The remaining ingredients are inactive: acacia gum fiber, hypromellose (a capsule material), water, silicon dioxide, and L-leucine.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for Lactobacillus acidophilus shows it is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions), and the evidence isn't yet reliable enough to rate its use for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
We don't have effectiveness data on file for the other three probiotic strains in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects—such as stomach discomfort, abdominal pain, indigestion, gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, and burping—can occur when taking it combined with other probiotics, but these are uncommon.
In one trial, a combination of probiotics was linked to a couple of cases of rash and itching, though it's unclear whether L. acidophilus was responsible or if those were individual reactions. Because live microorganisms are involved, there's a theoretical concern they could cause infection in certain patients, though this is rare.
Check with your doctor before starting.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
