What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lion's Mane against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Lion's Mane by HealthForce SuperFoods
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This is a single-ingredient supplement: beta-glucans extracted from Lion's Mane fruiting body. Beta-glucans are a type of fiber compound found naturally in mushrooms and grains.
There are no inactive or filler ingredients in this powder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The beta-glucans in this product are rated Likely Effective for two uses: lowering cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and supporting heart health in coronary heart disease. The evidence behind these ratings comes from clinical research.
If you're considering this supplement for another reason, that data isn't established in what we have on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-glucans from food sources are generally well tolerated. The caution here is that concentrated supplements like this powder haven't been studied as thoroughly as whole food, so use care — watch for any unusual symptoms and stop if they develop.
For pregnancy, safety data isn't on file, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice. For breastfeeding, there's little research on supplement doses, so caution is advised and again, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Side effects are uncommon. When beta-glucans are applied to skin, contact dermatitis and mild skin reactions can occur in a small number of people.
One case of temporary liver enzyme elevation was reported in a child taking a very high dose, but this is rare.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your exact medications if you take blood pressure drugs (antihypertensive medications) or immunosuppressants before starting this product. Use the interaction checker on this page with your specific drug names.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with cholesterol and heart health if the clinical evidence applies to you. If you take blood pressure medication or immunosuppressant drugs, check with your pharmacist first — the beta-glucans here could interfere.
Otherwise, it's generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements haven't been studied as long as whole foods, so start cautiously.

Formula
Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus), also known as hou tou gu or yamabushitake are large white shaggy mushrooms that resemble a lion's mane. Treasured for centuries throughout China and Japan, lion's mane was used as both a culinary delicacy and as a tonic for supporting mental alertness and calm. Lion's mane may assist in the production of nerve growth factor in the brain, a protein that promotes the growth and normal function of nerve cells. Lion's mane mushrooms also contain high levels of beta-glucans (25%+), known for their immune-supportive properties. Lion's mane has a mild, sweet-but-savory, licorice-like flavor. Our pure, wood-grown mushroom powders are made by hot water extraction using the fruiting body of the fungi.

Lion's Mane fruiting body extract monograph & interactionsLion's Mane by HealthForce SuperFoods Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HealthForce SuperFoods Lion's Mane Powder contains beta-glucans, which carry documented interactions with two medication types.
The most serious concern is antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications) — beta-glucans may lower blood pressure on their own, so taking them together could push your pressure too low. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beta-glucans also interact Moderately with immunosuppressants (drugs that weaken the immune system on purpose, often given after transplants or for severe autoimmune diseases). Beta-glucans stimulate immune activity, which may interfere with what those medications are trying to do.
Altogether, these interactions span 287 individual medications. If you take either a blood pressure medication or an immunosuppressant, use the interaction checker below with your exact drug names before you start this product.
