Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: beta-1,3-1,6-glucan, a type of soluble carbohydrate derived from the Lion's Mane mushroom. Beta-glucans are what researchers believe give the mushroom its effects on cholesterol and heart health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — hypromellose, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, and stearic acid — which are standard binders and flow agents that help keep the powder in capsule form.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence supports beta-glucans for two cardiovascular concerns: dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol levels) and coronary heart disease are both rated Likely Effective. That means clinical trials show real benefit.
We don't have established effectiveness ratings in our data for other uses Lion's Mane is sometimes marketed for, like memory or mood — the evidence for those isn't established in the facts we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-glucans from food are generally well tolerated. When they come as a concentrated supplement, though, we have less long-term safety data, so use caution and start with the recommended dose.
A small number of people in one topical trial experienced mild, self-limited skin reactions or contact dermatitis. In one trial of children taking a very high oral dose (120 mg per kilogram of body weight daily), one participant developed a temporary rise in liver enzymes within five days; these aren't the supplement doses you'd find in a typical capsule.
There isn't enough data on concentrated supplement doses during breastfeeding to know if they're safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and any immunosuppressants before you start — both are Moderate-severity interactions with the beta-glucans in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a one-ingredient supplement backed by decent evidence for cholesterol and heart health. If you take blood pressure medication or immunosuppressants, check your specific drug with the tool below before starting.
Anyone breastfeeding should discuss it with their pharmacist first. It's generally well tolerated at normal doses.

Lion's Mane by Real Mushrooms Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Real Mushrooms Lion's Mane contains beta-glucans, which are documented to interact with two medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). Beta-glucans may lower blood pressure on their own, so combining them with drugs that already do this could push your pressure too low (hypotension — dizziness, weakness, or fainting).
This is rated Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second documented interaction is with immunosuppressants (drugs that deliberately weaken your immune system after a transplant or for autoimmune conditions). Beta-glucans appear to stimulate immune function, which could theoretically work against what these medications are trying to achieve.
This is also Moderate severity.
Alternative note: the Lion's Mane mushroom extract itself is a blend, and its individual components are listed separately in the facts we hold. Altogether, these interactions span 287 individual medications.
If you take blood pressure medication or an immunosuppressant, use the interaction checker on this page to look up your exact drug before you start.
