Fulvic acid appears generally well tolerated in short-term use, with the most common side effects being diarrhea, headache, and sore throat in trial participants. A rare serious effect, Kashin-Beck bone disease, was reported.

Silicon at food and water levels poses no known issues, but high-dose or long-term safety hasn't been well studied. Indium is the major concern: it lacks reliable human safety data, and occupational inhalation exposure has caused potentially fatal lung disease with progressive scarring, shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough.

In vitro evidence shows that fulvic acid, formed from the oxidation and polymerization of protocatechuic acid, can shorten prothrombin time in human plasma, increasing the risk of clot formation.
