Probiotics Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotics against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotics by Health Nurture
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This 7-ingredient probiotic formula centers on live bacterial cultures: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium breve. These are the active components meant to support digestive and gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, maltodextrin, and medium chain triglycerides — which are fillers and binders that help deliver the bacteria.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most of these strains is still developing. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus subtilis is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea. For many other uses — athletic performance, constipation, eczema, anxiety, asthma, hay fever — there simply isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say whether these probiotics work.
We hold no effectiveness data for Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, or Lactobacillus rhamnosus in our system.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The bacteria in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though quality and safety can vary by strain. Mild gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea — have been reported in some users, though they're uncommon.
In rare cases, especially in critically ill, newborn, or immunocompromised patients, these live bacteria have caused serious infections like bacteremia or sepsis; if you fall into one of those categories, check with your doctor before starting. Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy.
For the other strains, pregnancy and breastfeeding data either aren't on file or are limited — talk with your doctor about your individual situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, check your specific medications with the search tool below before starting this probiotic — you'll need to space out the doses. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help if you're dealing with antibiotic-associated diarrhea or certain digestive issues, based on modest evidence for some strains. The main thing to watch: if you're on antibiotics, you'll need to separate when you take them from when you take this product.
If you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

Probiotics by Health Nurture Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Health Nurture Probiotics contains several bacterial strains, and some of them interact with antibiotic drugs.
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium breve all carry the same Moderate interaction with antibiotics: because these are live, active organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time may kill a significant number of them and reduce their effectiveness. You'll want to space out your antibiotic and probiotic doses — your pharmacist or doctor can tell you the right timing.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
We were unable to check three other bacterial strains in this product: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus. We hold no interaction data for them, so we cannot say whether they interact with medications.
Although serious infections have been reported rarely with some of these bacteria — mainly in critically ill, newborn, or immunocompromised patients — they are not listed as drug interactions. Still, if you have a weakened immune system or are critically ill, mention this product to your doctor before starting.
Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact antibiotics and any other drugs you're taking.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
