HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Relax CBD Capsules 25 mg by Green Roads
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This capsule contains 3 active ingredients. 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid your body uses to make serotonin, a chemical that helps regulate mood and sleep.
Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and calm. Full spectrum hemp extract is derived from the hemp plant and contains a range of cannabinoids and plant compounds.
The capsule itself is made from cellulose and stearate, common inactive ingredients used as a capsule material and flow agent.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The data we hold does not establish that 5-HTP, GABA, or full spectrum hemp extract is effective for relaxation or the conditions this product may be marketed to address. 5-HTP carries a 'Possibly Effective' rating for depression alone; GABA and hemp extract show insufficient evidence for their typical uses (anxiety, athletic performance, ADHD, and others).
If you're considering this product for a specific condition, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
5-HTP is generally well tolerated in the short term, but it commonly causes gastrointestinal upset—nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea—and drowsiness, fatigue, headache, and dizziness. These side effects are often dose-dependent and may lessen with continued use.
Rarely, it has been linked to mood changes including mania, hallucinations, and aggression, particularly at high doses or when combined with certain medications. The safety data advises against 5-HTP use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
GABA is generally well tolerated orally, though it may cause drowsiness, gastric upset, muscle weakness, and nausea; long-term safety is not well studied. There is insufficient information to recommend GABA during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Hemp products in food amounts are generally well tolerated, but concentrated extracts like this one are less studied; rare cases of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, facial swelling, breathing difficulty) have been reported, and very high doses have been associated with elevated liver enzymes.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take serotonergic medications like antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics), migraine drugs (triptans), tramadol, or linezolid—5-HTP can raise the risk of serotonin syndrome. Also flag CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids, sleep aids), blood pressure medications, blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, carbidopa (Parkinson's disease), ACE inhibitors, or any drugs metabolized by your liver, since interactions are possible with one or more ingredients in this blend.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product combines three relaxation-oriented ingredients, but the evidence for their effectiveness at these doses is not established in our data. If you take any medications—especially antidepressants, blood pressure drugs, blood thinners, sleep aids, or pain relievers—you need to check them against the interaction list on this page before you start.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you and whether it could affect how your other medications work.

Relax CBD Capsules 25 mg by Green Roads Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Relax CBD Capsules by Green Roads contains three active ingredients—5-hydroxytryptophan, gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), and full spectrum hemp extract—that together interact with a substantial number of medications.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction between 5-HTP and serotonergic drugs (antidepressants, certain pain relievers, migraine medications), where combining them may increase serotonin levels excessively and raise the risk of serotonin syndrome—a potentially serious condition marked by agitation, confusion, rapid heart rate, and high body temperature.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
5-HTP also has Moderate interactions with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, opioids) due to additive drowsiness, and with carbidopa (a Parkinson's medication), which can increase serotonergic side effects including restlessness and anxiety. GABA carries Minor interactions with blood pressure medications, where combined use might lower blood pressure further, and Minor additive effects with CNS depressants, though the clinical relevance is unclear.
The hemp extract has Minor interactions with several drug categories: blood pressure and ACE inhibitor medications (both risk of low blood pressure), blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (theoretical bleeding risk), and medications metabolized by liver enzymes CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 (where hemp may reduce their effectiveness).
Overall, these interactions span 1,127 individual medications. Check your exact prescriptions with the search tool on this page before starting.

Full Spectrum Hemp Extract
Estrogens
Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Gamma Aminobutyric Acid
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.
5-Hydroxytryptophan
Carbidopa (Lodosyn)
Combining 5-HTP and carbidopa can increase the risk of serotonergic side effects.
Carbidopa is sometimes used with 5-HTP to minimize peripheral 5-HTP metabolism and boost the amount that reaches the brain. However, this combination might also increase the risk of some side effects including hypomania, restlessness, rapid speech, anxiety, insomnia, and aggressiveness. Combining carbidopa and 5-HTP might also increase the risk of scleroderma-like skin changes due to elevated serotonin levels.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of 5-HTP with medications that cause sedation might have additive effects.
In clinical trials, 5-HTP has been associated with drowsiness and somnolence.
Serotonergic Drugs
Combining serotonergic drugs with 5-HTP might cause additive serotonergic effects.
5-HTP can increase serotonin levels and cause serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with 5-HTP might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. However, serotonin syndrome with 5-HTP has not yet been reported in humans. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using 5-HTP with serotonergic drugs.
