Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Aminoglutethimide
Aminoglutethimide falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group 5-htp interacts with.
In clinical trials, 5-HTP has been associated with drowsiness and somnolence.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: aminoglutethimide (Cytadren) can make you feel drowsy or sluggish on its own, and 5-HTP has also been linked to drowsiness and sleepiness in studies. Put them together and those calming, foggy effects could stack up. You might feel sleepier than usual, less alert, or a bit unsteady, especially when you first combine them.
I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is a theoretical concern based on how each one acts, not something proven in head-to-head studies, so it may not happen to everyone. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding 5-HTP, and be careful driving or doing anything risky until you know how the pair affects you.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aminoglutethimide page
“Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren) suppresses adrenal hormone output, and marked drowsiness is one of its hallmark side effects, which is exactly where most of its supplement interactions strike. Of the 134 ingredients on file, 78 add their own sedation, and that group holds most of the 9 major-rated entries; alcohol is the best studied, and…”

About 5-htp
What is 5-htp?
- Low mood or depression
- Anxiety and stress
- Sleep problems
- Migraine headaches
- Fibromyalgia
- Appetite or weight management
5-HTP is a compound your body uses to make serotonin, and people take it as a supplement hoping to improve mood, sleep, and headaches. Some early research is promising, but the overall evidence is limited and not conclusive. Because it can affect serotonin and may interact with medicines, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
