Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Smart PS Phosphatidylserine contains 3 active ingredients: phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylethanolamine. Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine are phospholipids—fatty compounds found naturally in cell membranes—and are included here to support brain health and cognitive function.
The product also contains inactive ingredients (gelatin, glycerin, polyglycitol syrup, and purified water) that form the softgel capsule and help deliver the active ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine has possibly effective evidence for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease. For athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
Phosphatidylcholine shows possibly effective evidence for ulcerative colitis; for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcohol-related liver disease, evidence is insufficient. We have no effectiveness data on file for phosphatidylethanolamine.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety isn't fully established. The most common side effects taken orally are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia (especially at higher doses around 600 mg), and nausea.
Phosphatidylcholine is also generally well tolerated, though high doses (around 30 grams per day) can cause gastrointestinal upset and diarrhea; even smaller doses may trigger bloating, diarrhea, altered taste, nausea, or vomiting in some people. Safety data for phosphatidylethanolamine isn't on file.
For pregnancy, the safety data advises against phosphatidylserine use. For phosphatidylcholine, choline is needed in pregnancy, but supplement safety beyond food sources isn't well studied—talk with your doctor about this product if you're pregnant.
While breastfeeding, safety data for both phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine is insufficient or unknown; speak with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this supplement, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticholinergic drugs or cholinergic drugs. Both are Moderate-severity concerns with phosphatidylserine, which may reduce how anticholinergic medications work or add to the effects of cholinergic ones.
Use the medication checker below to verify your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Smart PS Phosphatidylserine is an option if you're looking to support cognitive health, especially if you're dealing with age-related memory changes or early Alzheimer disease. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, or any other prescriptions, check them against this product with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—the interactions are theoretical but documented.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk it over with your healthcare provider, as the safety data for both ingredients is limited or advises against use.

Smart PS Phosphatidylserine by Vinco Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Smart PS Phosphatidylserine by Vinco contains phosphatidylserine, which has documented interactions with two medication types: anticholinergic drugs and cholinergic drugs.
Both are Moderate-severity concerns stemming from phosphatidylserine's effect on acetylcholine levels in the brain.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine is thought to raise acetylcholine, a brain chemical. With anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine), this could theoretically reduce how well those drugs work.
With cholinergic drugs (medications that boost acetylcholine), the effects might add up, potentially causing too much cholinergic activity.
The product also contains phosphatidylcholine, which we've checked and found no interactions documented in our data. We could not check phosphatidylethanolamine because we hold no data for it.
Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your exact medications through the checker below, especially if you take any anticholinergic or cholinergic prescription.
