What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Thyroid Calming against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Thyroid Calming by Herb Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Thyroid Calming is a four-ingredient herbal blend in liquid form. The active components are lemon balm aerial parts extract, bugleweed flowering aerial parts extract, Cactus Grandiflorus extract, and motherwort flowering aerial parts extract — each chosen for properties traditionally associated with thyroid and nervous system function.
The product also contains cane alcohol, distilled water, and vegetable glycerin as inactive ingredients to preserve and deliver the extracts.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most of these ingredients is limited. Lemon balm is rated possibly effective for stress and depression, and possibly effective for cold sores, though the product is labeled for thyroid support.
Bugleweed, motherwort, and Cactus Grandiflorus all carry insufficient evidence ratings for their proposed uses — meaning the data we hold does not establish that they work for the conditions they're traditionally used for. If you're considering this product for thyroid concerns, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the evidence actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lemon balm is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though dizziness and sedation are reported; however, these occurred no more often than placebo in clinical trials. Long-term safety is not well studied.
Bugleweed may affect thyroid function and should only be used under healthcare provider guidance. Motherwort is generally tolerated orally in normal amounts, though doses above 3 grams have caused uterine bleeding; common oral side effects are diarrhea and stomach irritation.
Cactus Grandiflorus can cause mouth burning, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea when taken orally. Pregnancy safety is a concern across all four ingredients — lemon balm has insufficient data; bugleweed and motherwort are rated likely unsafe; and Cactus Grandiflorus should be avoided.
Bugleweed may reduce milk production and should not be used while breastfeeding; motherwort and Cactus Grandiflorus also lack reliable breastfeeding safety data.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Thyroid Calming, double-check if you're on thyroid hormone replacement (levothyroxine and similar) — both lemon balm and bugleweed may interfere with them. Also verify any CNS depressants like benzodiazepines, sleep aids, or narcotic pain relievers; lemon balm and motherwort add to their sedating effects.
If you take digoxin (Lanoxin) for your heart, or any MAOI antidepressant, flag those too. Use the medication checker on this page to see your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-ingredient herbal blend with a long list of drug interactions — especially important to check if you take thyroid medications, CNS depressants, digoxin, or MAOIs. The evidence for its effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid it unless your doctor says otherwise. Run your medications through the checker below before starting, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether this product fits your situation.

Thyroid Calming by Herb Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Thyroid Calming by Herb Pharm contains four active ingredients, and together they interact with a substantial number of medications.
The most serious concern is lemon balm and bugleweed both affecting thyroid hormone replacement therapy — they may interfere with how your body uses thyroid medications, which is especially important if you're on levothyroxine or other thyroid replacements.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lemon balm and motherwort both have CNS depressant activity, meaning they can add to the sedating effects of medications like benzodiazepines, barbiturates, sleep aids, or prescription pain relievers. Cactus Grandiflorus extract may potentiate digoxin (Lanoxin), a heart medication, and theoretically could interact with MAOIs, older antidepressants used less commonly today.
Bugleweed may reduce how well thyroid hormones work by blocking their conversion in your body.
Lemon balm is the only ingredient with no known interactions aside from those listed. Altogether, these interactions span 273 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact prescriptions before starting.

Lemon Balm aerial parts extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of lemon balm might have additive effects with CNS depressant drugs.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, lemon balm might interfere with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
In vitro, constituents of lemon balm extract bind to thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), preventing TSH receptor-binding and leading to the inhibition of TSH-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity. In animals, lemon balm extract has been shown to decrease levels of circulating TSH and inhibit thyroid secretion.
Motherwort Flowering Aerial Parts Extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking motherwort concomitantly with other CNS depressants may increase the risk of sedation.
Motherwort has been reported to cause CNS depression and sedation.
Bugleweed flowering aerial parts extract
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, bugleweed may alter thyroid function.
Concomitant use of bugleweed may reduce the effects of thyroid hormones by blocking peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to triiodothyronine (T3).
Cactus Grandiflorus extract
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Cereus may potentiate the actions of cardiac glycosides and may enhance the effect of other cardiac drugs.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (Maois)
Theoretically, excessive doses of cereus may interact with MAOIs, because of the tyramine content.
