Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product has 2 active ingredients: manganese and chloride. Manganese is an essential mineral your body needs in small amounts for bone health, wound healing, and metabolism.

In this liquid form from Complete H2O Minerals, you're getting manganese chloride as the active ingredient. The inactive ingredients are purified water (which makes up the liquid base) and manganese chloride itself, which serves as the mineral source.

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Manganese's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: brain muscle function and joint health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Osteoarthritis, Wound healing, Cartilage health, Joint cushioning, Muscle function.
  • The closest evidence on file: Manganese is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Osteoarthritis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Manganese is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Wound healing.

Manganese is effective for treating manganese deficiency — a confirmed use backed by evidence. For other uses listed on this product (hay fever, osteoporosis, COPD, weight loss, and osteoarthritis), the evidence isn't established enough to rate them reliably.

That doesn't mean manganese won't help with those conditions; it means the research data we hold doesn't support a confident claim either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Manganese taken in normal dietary amounts is generally well tolerated. High-dose supplements, however, carry real risks.

The main concern is neurotoxicity — nerve damage that can resemble Parkinson's disease. Serious cases have been reported in people taking very high doses (100 mg daily) over months to years, causing irreversible neurological damage and even liver injury severe enough to require intensive medical treatment.

The safety data advises against high-dose supplements unless your doctor specifically directs you to take them. For breastfeeding, normal dietary amounts are considered likely safe, but the data shows conflicting signals on whether extra supplementation is safe — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this while nursing.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Manganese.

Before taking Ultimate Manganese Concentrate, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antipsychotic drugs (such as haloperidol), quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin), or tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline). Manganese may worsen side effects with antipsychotics and can reduce how well antibiotics work if taken together.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product is meant to correct manganese deficiency if your doctor has confirmed you have one. If you take antipsychotic medications or antibiotics (quinolone or tetracycline types), you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement — timing and dosing matter.

Avoid high doses unless a clinician advises otherwise, since manganese can damage your nervous system at high levels. Run your medications through the checker on this page before you start.

Antipsychotic Drugs

Theoretically, the risk for manganese toxicity might increase when taken with antipsychotic drugs.
Hallucinations and behavioral changes have been reported in a patient with liver disease who was taking haloperidol and manganese. Researchers speculate that taking manganese along with haloperidol, phenothiazine-derivatives, or other antipsychotic medications might increase the risk of manganese toxicity in some patients.

Ultimate Manganese Concentrate by Complete H2O Minerals: Common Questions

Does Ultimate Manganese Concentrate by Complete H2O Minerals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ultimate Manganese Concentrate has a known interaction with 83 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ultimate Manganese Concentrate contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is manganese deficiency common?
True manganese deficiency is rare in people eating a normal diet, but it can happen. Only a doctor can confirm whether you actually have a deficiency — that's when this supplement would be effective. If you're considering it for other reasons (bone health, arthritis, etc.), the evidence we hold isn't strong enough to recommend it.
What happens if I take too much manganese?
High doses can cause neurotoxicity — damage to your nervous system that may resemble Parkinson's disease. Severe cases have required intensive medical treatment, and some damage was irreversible. The safety data is clear: stick to normal dietary amounts or doses your doctor prescribes, and don't self-treat with high-dose supplements.
Is this safe while breastfeeding?
Normal dietary amounts of manganese are considered likely safe while nursing. The data shows mixed signals on whether extra supplementation is safe, though — so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're breastfeeding.
Can I take this with my antibiotics?
It depends on the type. Manganese can reduce how well quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics work if taken together. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about timing — they may suggest you take them several hours apart so they don't interfere with each other.
What is chloride in this product for?
Chloride is paired with manganese to form manganese chloride, the active ingredient source in the liquid. We don't hold interaction data for chloride itself.
