Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Cinoxacin
Cinoxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Manganese interacts with.
Manganese is a multivalent cation. Interactions resulting in reduced quinolone absorption have been reported between quinolones and other multivalent cations, such as calcium and iron.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist with Cinoxacin, an older quinolone antibiotic used mainly for urinary tract infections. Manganese is what we call a multivalent mineral, and minerals like this (think calcium, iron, magnesium) can grab onto quinolone antibiotics in your gut and form a clump your body can't absorb well. The worry is that taking a manganese supplement too close to your dose could leave less Cinoxacin in your system to actually clear the infection.
I'll be honest, this one is theoretical for manganese specifically, based on how related minerals behave rather than hard studies. Still, weaker antibiotic levels can mean the bug isn't fully knocked out. A simple fix is spacing them apart by a few hours, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Manganese
What is Manganese?
- Bone health support
- Antioxidant and enzyme support
- Filling dietary gaps
- Metabolism support
- Wound healing
Manganese is an essential trace mineral your body needs in small amounts for bone formation, metabolism, and antioxidant defense, and most people get enough from a normal diet. Supplements may help if you have a genuine deficiency, but too much can be harmful—especially to the nervous system—so do not take high doses without guidance from a pharmacist or doctor.
