Hallucinations and behavioral changes have been reported in a patient with liver disease who was taking haloperidol and manganese. Researchers speculate that taking manganese along with haloperidol, phenothiazine-derivatives, or other antipsychotic medications might increase the risk of manganese toxicity in some patients.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Molindone (Moban) and a manganese supplement: this isn't about manganese changing how your medication is broken down. It's the other way around. There's a theory that taking an antipsychotic alongside extra manganese could make manganese build up in the body more easily, and too much manganese can affect the nervous system.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes mostly from a single report involving a different antipsychotic (haloperidol) in someone with liver disease, so it's largely theoretical. Still, since both can affect movement and behavior, it's worth a quick check. Most people get plenty of manganese from food, and culinary amounts aren't the concern here. Before adding a concentrated manganese supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor.
