Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Risperidone
Risperidone falls under ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUGS — the group Manganese interacts with.
Hallucinations and behavioral changes have been reported in a patient with liver disease who was taking haloperidol and manganese. Researchers speculate that taking manganese along with haloperidol, phenothiazine-derivatives, or other antipsychotic medications might increase the risk of manganese toxicity in some patients.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to understand about pairing manganese with risperidone: this isn't a case where one changes the blood level of the other. Risperidone won't make manganese build up by blocking how it's cleared. Instead, the concern is more of a side-by-side overlap. Both can affect the same movement-control areas of the brain, so in theory the combination might raise the chance of manganese-related problems in certain people.
I want to be straight with you: this is built on very thin evidence, basically a single old report involving a different drug (haloperidol) in someone with liver disease. For most folks getting normal dietary or modest supplement amounts of manganese, this likely won't be an issue. Still, watch for things like tremor, stiffness, restlessness, or unusual movements, and run any high-dose manganese supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Manganese
What is Manganese?
- Bone health support
- Antioxidant and enzyme support
- Filling dietary gaps
- Metabolism support
- Wound healing
Manganese is an essential trace mineral your body needs in small amounts for bone formation, metabolism, and antioxidant defense, and most people get enough from a normal diet. Supplements may help if you have a genuine deficiency, but too much can be harmful—especially to the nervous system—so do not take high doses without guidance from a pharmacist or doctor.
