Manganese + Isotretinoin
Isotretinoin brand names: Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, Absorica, and others.
We found no known interaction between Manganese and Isotretinoin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Manganese and Isotretinoin
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Isotretinoin and Manganese in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Isotretinoin
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Isotretinoin is filed under 4 classifications — including retinoids, cytochrome p450 2c8 (cyp2c8) substrates, photosensitizing drugs. Manganese has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antipsychotic drugs (moderate), quinolone antibiotics (moderate) and tetracycline antibiotics (moderate) — and none of Isotretinoin’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Manganese Does Interact With Other Medications
Manganese has 83 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Isotretinoin isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Manganese in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used orally and appropriately. Manganese is safe when used in doses below the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of 11 mg daily during pregnancy or lactation in those aged 19 or older. However, those under 19 years of age should limit doses to less than 9 mg daily.
When used orally in excessive doses. Doses over the UL are associated with a greater risk of toxicity. Additionally, observational research shows that adults with higher blood manganese levels have greater odds of delivering low birth weight or small for gestational age (SGA) male, but not female, infants.
When inhaled at moderate doses, long-term. Manganese salts can cross the placenta, and animal research suggests that large amounts of manganese may be teratogenic.

Questions About Manganese or Isotretinoin
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Manganese or Isotretinoin, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Isotretinoin
This page covers Manganese only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Isotretinoin page lists 49 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Vitamin A (major), African Wild Potato (moderate), Alfalfa (moderate) and Angelica Archangelica (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 35 moderate · 12 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Isotretinoin page
“Vitamin A is the first thing anyone on isotretinoin (Accutane, Absorica, Claravis) should check their supplements for, because isotretinoin is itself a vitamin A derivative and stacking more on top can push levels into toxic range. It is one of two major-rated entries among the 49 supplements and herbs known to interact with this acne…”

Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Manganese reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 13, 2026. The Manganese and Isotretinoin records this page draws on were last updated July 11, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Manganese
What is Manganese?
- Bone health support
- Antioxidant and enzyme support
- Filling dietary gaps
- Metabolism support
- Wound healing
Manganese is an essential trace mineral your body needs in small amounts for bone formation, metabolism, and antioxidant defense, and most people get enough from a normal diet. Supplements may help if you have a genuine deficiency, but too much can be harmful—especially to the nervous system—so do not take high doses without guidance from a pharmacist or doctor.
Mineral (dietary trace element) · Tablets, capsules, gummies, liquid drops, part of multivitamin/mineral and bone-health products
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Manganese is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Manganese record says about it on its own.
Manganese: dosing
There is no single "treatment dose" of manganese for most health goals. Health authorities have set recommended daily intakes for general nutrition and an upper limit that you should not exceed, because higher amounts increase the risk of harm. Most people meet their needs through food alone. If a supplement is recommended, the amount in a typical multivitamin or bone-health product is usually enough.

About Isotretinoin
What Is Isotretinoin Used For?
Brand names: Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, Absorica, Roaccutane
Isotretinoin is used to treat severe recalcitrant nodular acne — large, deep, inflamed breakouts (nodules 5 mm or bigger) that haven't cleared with conventional treatments like antibiotics. It is approved for non-pregnant patients 12 years of age and older. Brands include Absorica, Absorica LD, Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, and generic isotretinoin capsules.
Because of its serious potential side effects, isotretinoin is reserved for patients whose acne is truly severe and has not responded to other standard treatments. A typical course lasts 15 to 20 weeks, and many patients experience prolonged remission — sometimes permanent clearing — after a single course.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Isotretinoin
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (46,523 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.

Isotretinoin Is Linked to Lower Levels of 4 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Isotretinoin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Manganese — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
