What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “A 50:50 Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (15,000,000,000 Live Organism(s)) without saying how much of each component you get.

Ultra Flora Plus DF is a 2-active-ingredient probiotic powder. It contains Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM and a 50:50 blend of Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07 — both are live beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut.

The powder also contains several inactive ingredients including fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber that feeds good bacteria), rice dextrin, and additional Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Probiotic digestive and immune support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Bacterial vaginosis, Clostridioides difficile infection, Colic, Constipation, Helicobacter pylori — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis, Helicobacter pylori, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Lactose intolerance.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions).

We don't hold enough reliable evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. We couldn't check effectiveness data for Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea can occur, but they're uncommon.

In rare cases, the bacteria can translocate (move) from the gut and cause serious infections like sepsis or endocarditis, though this is thought to happen mainly in people who already have those organisms elsewhere in their body. Because data are limited, it's worth checking with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from this product — antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the supplement and make it less effective. We couldn't check Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07, so ask your pharmacist about any other medications you're on.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ultra Flora Plus DF contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this with my antibiotics?
No, not at the same time. Antibiotics kill the live bacteria in this probiotic, so they'd work against each other. Space your antibiotic dose and this supplement several hours apart — your pharmacist can suggest the best schedule for you.
Does it really work for IBS?
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for IBS, which means there's some promising evidence — but it's not a proven cure. Results vary person to person, so give it time and talk with your doctor if you don't see improvement.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. Some experience mild gas, bloating, or abdominal discomfort when they first start, but these effects are uncommon. Serious infections from the bacteria itself are very rare and happen mostly in people who are already very ill.
Is this safe if I'm on other medications?
We documented interactions with antibiotic drugs, so check those first. For other medications, use the search tool on this page to verify your exact prescriptions — or ask your pharmacist to run them through before you start.
