These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The inactive ingredients are a vegetable capsule, microcrystalline cellulose, calcium palmitate, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence varies by use. L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for bacterial vaginosis and Helicobacter pylori infection. B. bifidum may help with respiratory tract infections.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS. For most other conditions listed — allergies, asthma, cognitive decline, anxiety — the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether these ingredients work.
NutraFlora scFOS hasn't been established as effective for the conditions in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, B. bifidum, L. gasseri, and B. longum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though each cautions that people who are seriously ill or immunocompromised should check with their doctor first. Live probiotic preparations do carry a rare theoretical risk of serious infection (bacteremia, sepsis, abscess) in critically ill patients or those with weakened immune systems — these cases are uncommon but documented.
Mild side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, and diarrhea have been reported with probiotics and with NutraFlora scFOS, especially at higher doses, though studies show these are often no more common than with placebo. No pregnancy or lactation safety data is on file for L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. gasseri, or Bacillus coagulans.
B. longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation. Talk with your doctor before using any of these during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
L. gasseri
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus gasseri with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. gasseri.
Lactobacillus gasseri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. gasseri preparations by at least two hours.
B. bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
B. longum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
