Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf extract in powder form. White mulberry has been used traditionally to support blood sugar balance and overall metabolic health, though the evidence for most uses isn't yet established in the research we have on file.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Blood sugar and cholesterol support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes), Hypertension, Obesity, Weight management — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Diabetes (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Obesity, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes).

The evidence for white mulberry leaf isn't established for the uses we checked — androgenic alopecia (pattern hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol. The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the clinical trials we have aren't conclusive yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. In a clinical study, participants taking 4.6 grams three times daily for up to 12 weeks reported bloating and flatulence in about half of cases, loose stools in a quarter, and constipation in about a fifth.

These digestive side effects often improved over time. Because concentrated supplements are less studied than food forms and white mulberry can lower blood sugar, use caution — especially if your glucose is already low.

Avoid medicinal amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as there isn't enough safety data.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry Extract has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this lower my blood sugar if I don't have diabetes?
White mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels based on clinical research. If you don't take diabetes medication, your risk of low blood sugar is lower, but it's still something to be aware of — especially if you have naturally low blood sugar or skip meals.
What are the side effects?
The most common are digestive: bloating, flatulence, loose stools, and constipation. A clinical study found these in roughly half, a quarter, and a fifth of participants respectively at higher doses. The good news is these often ease up over a few weeks as your body adjusts.
Can I take it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety data for medicinal amounts during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your OB or midwife if you're considering it.
Does it actually work for diabetes or high cholesterol?
The evidence we have isn't conclusive for either. We rated both as having insufficient reliable evidence to say whether it helps. You'd want to rely on your regular diabetes or cholesterol medications and talk with your doctor about whether this could be a helpful addition.
Is this ingredient safe, or does it have lots of side effects?
White mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated — most side effects are mild and digestive, and they often ease over time. The main safety concern is its effect on blood sugar and its interaction with certain medications, not the ingredient itself being unsafe.
