Yarrow Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Yarrow against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) aerial parts extract, which is the leaf and stem material of the yarrow plant. The liquid is prepared with purified water, vegetable glycerin, and a small amount of certified organic alcohol as preservatives.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established for yarrow in our data. We don't have reliable evidence to rate whether it works for tonsillitis, wound healing, eczema (atopic dermatitis), period pain (dysmenorrhea), yeast infections (vaginal candidiasis), or any other use.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means human studies strong enough to prove benefit haven't been done or aren't in our files yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Yarrow taken by mouth or applied inside the vagina seems to be well tolerated in short-term use, though human safety data are limited. Topically (on the skin), dermatitis is the most common side effect—yarrow can trigger allergic skin reactions, swelling, sun sensitivity, and contact dermatitis because of compounds called sesquiterpene lactones.
One person handling yarrow flowers reported nasal and asthma symptoms. Yarrow should not be used in pregnancy—it may affect the uterus.
It's also best avoided while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, check with your pharmacist before using this product—yarrow may increase lithium levels (Moderate severity). For all other medications, no interactions are documented in our data for the ingredient we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Yarrow is traditionally used for various conditions, but we don't have solid evidence it works for any of them. If you're on lithium, this product isn't safe without checking first.
Skin contact can trigger allergic reactions. Talk to your pharmacist about whether yarrow fits your situation and whether you need to avoid it during pregnancy or while nursing.
