Fruquintinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Aegeline interacts with.

Aegeline inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, aegeline may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use aegeline cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the short version for Fruzaqla (fruquintinib), a targeted pill used for advanced colorectal cancer. Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down. In lab dish studies, aegeline appears to slow that same enzyme. If that happened in a real person, fruquintinib could clear more slowly and build up, which in theory could mean stronger side effects like high blood pressure, hand-foot skin reactions, fatigue, mouth sores, or bleeding.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this is only test-tube data, never shown in actual patients, and rated a minor interaction. That said, aegeline itself has been tied to serious liver injury and regulators have warned against it, so I'd steer clear of it and let your oncologist or pharmacist know before adding any supplement.

Aegeline is a compound originally identified in the bael tree (Aegle marmelos) that gained attention because it was added to some weight-loss and workout supplements. It is best known for being linked to serious liver injury in a product called OxyELITE Pro, and U.S. regulators warned against products containing it. There is no good evidence it safely helps with weight loss, and it should generally be avoided.

What Is Fruquintinib Used For?

Brand name: Fruzaqla

Fruzaqla (fruquintinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) — colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is specifically for patients who have already been treated with several standard chemotherapy regimens and other targeted therapies.

Fruzaqla is intended for patients who have previously received fluoropyrimidine-, oxaliplatin-, and irinotecan-based chemotherapy, an anti-VEGF therapy, and — if their tumor is RAS wild-type and it is medically appropriate — an anti-EGFR therapy.
