Prednisolone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Aegeline interacts with.

Aegeline inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, aegeline may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use aegeline cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the gist for prednisolone. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this steroid down. In lab dish testing, aegeline appears to slow that same enzyme. In theory, that could let prednisolone build up a bit more than usual, which might mean stronger effects from the steroid, things like fluid retention, higher blood sugar, mood changes, trouble sleeping, or stomach upset.

I want to be honest about how soft this is: it comes only from test-tube research, and it has never been shown to happen in real people. The bigger concern with aegeline is actually that it has been tied to serious liver injury and regulators warned against it. I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything new with prednisolone.

Aegeline is a compound originally identified in the bael tree (Aegle marmelos) that gained attention because it was added to some weight-loss and workout supplements. It is best known for being linked to serious liver injury in a product called OxyELITE Pro, and U.S. regulators warned against products containing it. There is no good evidence it safely helps with weight loss, and it should generally be avoided.

Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.

It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
