Theoretically, concomitant use of alfalfa with photosensitizing drugs might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that excessive doses of alfalfa may increase photosensitivity, possibly due to its chlorophyll content. It is unclear if this effect would be clinically relevant in humans.

Here's the gist for citalopram (Celexa) and alfalfa: this isn't about how your body breaks down the medicine. Citalopram can occasionally make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and alfalfa, in very large amounts, may do the same thing (likely because of its chlorophyll content). Put them together and the worry is simply that you could sunburn a little more easily.

I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern drawn mostly from animal studies using big alfalfa doses. We don't have good human proof it's a real problem, and normal food amounts almost certainly won't matter. If you take concentrated alfalfa supplements, just use sunscreen and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Citalopram — available as tablets (including brand Celexa), oral solution, and capsules — is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. This includes depression that causes persistent low mood, loss of interest in everyday activities, changes in sleep or appetite, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Citalopram capsules are specifically indicated for adults with MDD but are not intended for starting or stopping treatment — another citalopram product must be used for dose titration. All forms are indicated for adults only; citalopram tablets are not approved for use in children.
