Here's the short version on combining alfalfa with felbamate. This isn't about how your body breaks down the medication or how well it controls your seizures. Instead, it's about sun sensitivity. Felbamate is listed as a drug that can sometimes make your skin more reactive to sunlight, and alfalfa (in large supplement doses) may add to that, possibly because of its chlorophyll content.

I want to be honest with you: this one is theoretical. It comes from animal research using high doses, and we don't really know if it matters in people. So the practical takeaway is simple. If you take both, just be a little extra mindful with sunscreen and sun exposure, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before starting alfalfa.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
