ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Candesartan Cilexetil
Candesartan Cilexetil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Apple interacts with.
Some clinical evidence suggests that consuming apple and cherry juice can increase blood pressure in elderly patients.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the practical takeaway for candesartan: this medicine lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Some lower-quality clinical research suggests that drinking a lot of apple juice (and cherry juice) may nudge blood pressure back up in older adults, which could work against what your candesartan is trying to do. In plain terms, your readings might not stay as well controlled as you'd expect.
This is a moderate, probable concern tied mainly to juice, not so much a whole apple eaten as a snack. Eating an apple now and then is very unlikely to be a problem. If you regularly drink a lot of apple juice, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your home blood pressure numbers. Don't change your candesartan on your own.

About Apple
What is Apple?
- General nutrition and fiber intake
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Blood sugar and weight management
- Digestive regularity
- Antioxidant support
Apples are a nutritious whole food that provides fiber, vitamins, and antioxidant plant compounds, and eating them regularly fits well into a healthy diet. While research suggests apples may support heart and digestive health, most claims about concentrated apple supplements or extracts are not strongly proven, so enjoy apples as food and talk with your pharmacist before using high-dose products.
About Candesartan
What Is Candesartan Used For?
Brand names: Atacand, Amias
Candesartan tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children ages 1 to under 17. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
Candesartan tablets are also used in adults with heart failure (NYHA class II–IV) with reduced heart pumping function to lower the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization from heart failure. Atacand is specifically studied for use alongside an ACE inhibitor for added benefit in heart failure.
