CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES

Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan, Phenylpropanolamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to induce CYP1A2 activity. This effect has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with this combination cold medicine and atractylodes. In animal studies (using high doses), atractylodes appeared to speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In theory, revving up that enzyme could clear certain ingredients a little faster, possibly making them slightly less effective. For a multi-symptom cold product, that might mean a bit less relief from the cough suppressant or antihistamine, rather than a dangerous buildup.
I want to be straight with you though: this has only been seen in lab and animal research, not in people, so it may not matter at all in real life. It's rated a minor concern. Don't change anything on your own, but it never hurts to run it by your pharmacist, especially if you're taking atractylodes regularly.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This is a multi-ingredient cold product, and one of its parts, the cough suppressant dextromethorphan, is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab and animal studies (not in people), high doses of atractylodes seemed to slow a similar enzyme down. If that happened in humans, it could let a bit more dextromethorphan build up, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy.
Honestly, the evidence here is very thin. It comes from test tubes and animals, not real patients, and it's rated a minor concern. For most people taking this cold medicine for a few days, it's unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you take atractylodes regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first.
