Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

This combination cough and cold product pairs an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) with a cough suppressant (dextromethorphan). Both are partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The thinking here is that atractylodes might slow that enzyme down a little, which could let these medicines build up slightly and lean their effects stronger, things like extra drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, or feeling foggy.

Honestly, though, this is a very soft, theoretical concern. The only signal comes from animal cells given high doses, and it has never been shown in people. For most folks this won't cause a problem. Still, if you tend to get sleepy on cold medicine, go easy and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
