Why this applies to Loratadine

Loratadine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down loratadine (Claritin). In animal and lab studies, high doses of atractylodes seemed to slow a similar enzyme down. If that were to happen in people, loratadine could clear a little more slowly and build up slightly in your system. In theory that might mean a touch more of its usual effects, like mild drowsiness, dry mouth, or headache. Loratadine is generally a gentle, non-sedating antihistamine, so even a small bump is unlikely to cause big trouble.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern only. It has not been shown in humans, and the rating is minor. Still, if you plan to use both regularly, it never hurts to mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
